HIV and AIDS are SSD-eligible disabilities

June 27 is National HIV Testing Day. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) one out of every five people are unaware that they are infected with the HIV virus. The National Association of People with AIDS (NAPWA) urges all individuals to be tested for the virus, which can lead to AIDS.

Note to Politicians: Do Something About SSD

In this election year, there's much discussion about how long Social Security will last. However, almost all this talk is focused on the old age pension benefits that most Americans receive or hope to receive. Apparently overlooked by the hosts of Sunday news shows and talk radio are the Social Security Disability (SSD) benefits that provide payments to workers no longer able to hold jobs because of their disabilities.

Scleroderma and SSD

June is Scleroderma Awareness Month, which means that information about this disabling condition will be plentiful. If you were recently diagnosed with this condition, you almost certainly have questions about the future and whether you will be able to work. Your doctor can answer some of your questions, but you may also wish to know about the resources that will be available to you such as Social Security Disability (SSD) benefits  if you can no longer work because of scleroderma.
