March is Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Awareness month. MS is a disease in which the protective covering around the nerves, as well as the nerves themselves, are attacked by the body. The result is that nerve signals do not get transmitted properly or at all. Depending on which parts of the central nervous system (CNS) are affected, patients can have mild symptoms such as numbness and tingling or severe symptoms, such as blindness and paralysis. Any part of the body can be affected, depending on where the CNS is damaged.
