SSD vs. OAP: Congress Tries to Separate the Disabled From the Retired

A recent article in the Chicago Sun Times sheds light on the efforts of the majority in the House of Representatives to eliminate the option of funding the Social Security Disability (SSD) program by reallocating money.

IBD and Social Security Disability

A recent blog in the Huffington Post addresses the problem of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and Social Security Disability (SSD). At least 1.6 million patients live with various forms of IBD that include Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Both of these conditions are incurable, debilitating and frequently disabling diseases that cause severe abdominal pain, chronic diarrhea, bleeding, fever, and weight loss.

Glaucoma and Social Security Disability (SSD)

January is National Glaucoma Awareness Month. Glaucoma affects 2.7 million people in the U.S. and is the leading cause of preventable blindness. Glaucoma, sometimes called the "sneak thief of sight," has no symptoms and no cure. Once vision is gone, it's gone. 60 million people worldwide have glaucoma, although probably half do not know that they have the disease. At least 4.5 million people worldwide are blind as a result of glaucoma.
