You are allowed a deduction for every expense you incur in preparing for your case. Even in the highly unlikely event that we don't win your case, those expenses are a legitimate deduction.
That deduction is taken in the year in which you pay or incur the expense, so it's important that you keep accurate records. Make sure you bring this deduction to the tax preparer's attention at tax time. Tell him or her it goes on line 22 of Schedule "A." You can deduct these expenses even if it turns out your Social Security benefits are not taxable!
If our fees are deducted from your award, the amount will be shown on Form SSA-1099, Box 3, which you will get from the Social Security Administration in January. If you paid us directly, and you have any questions about how much the fee was, or if you want proof of payment, just give us a call, and we'll send you a letter stating the tax deductible amount. |
